This tool is not long enough to remove the XVS 650 V Star damper rod, although the company website claims it is the correct tool. Also, it didn't quite fit the top of the damper rod. I looped the tube around the end and checked the fit on the rod I had already removed, then hammered the longer rod onto the other end to get the right length and leverage. You should definitely have SOMETHING to pull the stem out of if you completely disassemble your forks and don't have an impact wrench.
