First, the magnets are strong. I used these to hang up curtains in my sidelites of my door. My sidelights are 9.5 inches wide. When taken out of box, from end of magnet including pole to other magnet is 10.5 inches so they are too long to fit my window. Box says fits 9". Note The pole consists of 2 rods with one that slides into the other. In order to fit my door less than 10.5", I had to get rid of the outer pole and attach the inner pole to each magnet holder. But one side of the magnet holder is wider on one side than the other and is too big to fit the inner pole snuggly. I had to wrap the one end of the pole with tape to make it fit snugly in the magnet holder. Basically if your width is less than 10.5 inches, you're gonna have to do what I just described to make it fit.
