This thermometer is of quite good quality for its low price. Temperature readings are fast and accurate, and the metal can withstand nearly 400-degree frying oil. We've used it a few times so far and it's pretty good - my only complaint is that the metal bracket on the side doesn't snap onto our pots as hoped. Instead, we simply periodically check the temperature by holding it with our hand. We bought a long 12-inch, so even if you hand-hold it and stick it in a giant pot, you're still pretty far from the hot oil.
