I've only been using this masher for a few months and it's not a bowl that I use often so I can tell you how it will wear out over time but for now that is all that is advertised. I have arthritis in both hands and three spinal injuries that leave weakness in my arms and shoulders. Reaching from the top and pushing straight down is effortless and I can use it to puree all kinds of cooked veggies. It doesn't puree them, but it leaves a nice texture so it doesn't feel like mush. I wash and dry it like someone recommended but a couple of times I left it wet in a hurry and had no problems.
