I ordered them one size larger (XL) because they weren't the size I would have ordered. The waist is ok but they were baggy so definitely need to order a normal size. The large size became available later and I ordered it; I will update as soon as they arrive. Despite the baggy fit, I love these shorts. I'm 72 and out of decent leg models so I love the 7 inch length. They're light, comfortable and cool. I go in 90+ degrees and they are comfortable to wear. A word of caution and the reason for the 4 vs. 5 stars: The washing instructions say how to wash delicates. I washed them on the normal cycle and then line dried them. After washing, I noticed that the 2.5 inch portion of the inseam at the waistband had come apart. It's a bit noticeable in the fit (not as smooth), but still functional. I know it's my fault for ignoring the washing instructions on the label, but I have to admit that I secretly believe that these types of garments shouldn't be washed that delicately. Feelings aside, I've ordered a mesh bag for future washes.
