Manufacturers want something called planned obsolescence. Yes, they improve cable management and technology that requires the user to abandon all old cables and technology in favor of newer ones. As for the charging performance, I don't know if there is any real improvement as I believe it depends more on the power supply and the outlet of the socket connection. I want some of the cords to be very short so there isn't a large wire that I have to velcro wrap and tie. and some cords I need when the outlet or source is a few feet from the bedside table or behind the couch/chair. The sheathing of the cord is also durable and helps discourage the cat from chewing and can take a lot more abuse than the old plastic sheaths.
