These shoes were a total disappointment and I sent them back immediately. For a supposedly normal shoe width, this shoe is unusually narrow at the arch and then goes into a loose toe box that leaves room both laterally and in the toes. Worst of all, the rubber outsole is very hard and doesn't have the elasticity to absorb shock. I can't imagine even hacking them would solve this problem. I most likely expected that the soles would actually break with serious wear and tear. After all, their design was simply of poor quality. The eyelets for the laces were just holes cut into the fabric and frayed around the edges. There was no effort to finish the eye holes so I imagine they will wear out terribly and will also rub the laces a lot causing them to fray. $18.99 at Walmart.
