This set was purchased with the PBOX microscope. Scientific kits for children's microscopes. to my almost 8 year old niece because this year she decided she was too old for 'toys' and started wanting more gifts for the 'big girls'! It took her a few minutes to unwrap the gifts for the first time, leaving my wife and I a little concerned that we had overdone her age, but once she set her eyes on what she saw was she finished! We were meant to help with the initial learning curve (for some odd reason this 7 year old wasn't fully conversant with the lab gear) but once you clear that little hurdle, curiosity sets in! She has quickly progressed from a child opening presents to a curious scientist explaining every new slide she is looking at to the whole family. The slides are made of real glass, have beveled edges to minimize cuts and are built to last. Wooden case to protect and organize slides. My biggest general downside to the slides is that while it's great for my niece to see very unique specimens, they're also unique enough to dampen her excitement a bit, as many of the specimens are things she doesn't easily recognize /can understand (e.g. aqustio nymphaea). And to be honest, even after the adults in the room admittedly went through some of them and did their best to explain them, some of the slides were so far removed from the world she could relate to that they were a little became uninteresting. Also, one of the slides arrived cracked and many of them were smudged upon exiting the box so please be sure to check/clean them before letting your kids dip. Slide List: Aqustio Nymphaea Stem, Bean Root, Connective Tissue, Coprinus Mushroom, Canine Esophagus, Canine Cardiac Muscle, Canine Skeletal Muscle, Canine Stomach Muscle, Bee Jaw, Bee Leg, Human Blood, Hydrilla Leaf, Lily Ovary, Lily Anther, Luke Skin, Pig Nerve, Pine Leaf, Pine Stalk, Pumpkin Stalk, Rabbit Spinal Cord, Rabbit Testicle, Sunflower Stalk, Linden Stalk, Zeast Stalk
