Absolutely useless, bad purchase, sorry to anyone who bought it.

Summary. Apple laptops with an M1 processor are so much worse than laptops of the same price class with Intel / AMD processors from other manufacturers that there is no rational reason to buy them. : Such "miracles" as "retina display", "high-quality sound", "write speed to disk 3000+ mb / s", "fingerprint login", "metal case" - there are a huge number of modern laptops.

Pros
  • The best thing I can say about this laptop is that I was able to sell it after a year of use for almost the same money I bought it for. Apple has gone to great lengths to create a pseudo-religious cult around its products. The presence of adherents of this cult makes it possible to profitably sell old devices at a high price.
Cons
  • All talk about unprecedented performance is a marketing lie. Text editor, browser and email client work at the same speed as before. It is difficult to compare performance across a wide range of tasks, since there is simply no native software for most tasks under the Apple M1. What is, works in the mode of emulation of classic processors with a serious decrease in performance compared to models of previous generations. For example, the same Photoshop seems to be native for Mac M1, but in practice you have to use the old version in the emulator. JetBrains products have native support for M1, but the speed is the same as before. There is no performance boost. It took me 3 hours to convert an ordinary two-hour 4K movie from ts format to mp4 format on my Mac Pro M1. On a comparable AMD gaming laptop, 25 minutes. The promise of support for applications from the iPhone and iPad at the time of purchase of the computer sounded very promising. In fact, we managed to start something, but most programs for mobile devices crash on startup with errors. The biggest problem is the system cache. After a couple of weeks of work, 2/3 of the hard disk is occupied by the system cache. Unlike situations with shadow copies and incorrect work of TimeMashine on previous models, which could be fixed with settings, on the Mac M1 this is cured only by reinstalling the system. It is impossible to install Windows, Linux as a second system or in an emulator. You can install Windows 10 for tablets in the emulator. Naturally, it is impossible to run something on it for the sake of which they put Windows on a Mac. There are no drivers for the simplest and most necessary peripherals. Battery life is seriously less than advertised - 6 hours at best when the computer is new.
