Shelf Labels Saved My Family

Just before the massive Covid 19 outage, my family and I moved to a beautiful new home. We loved it, especially with our new kitchen and pantry. We had a whole separate pantry adjoining the huge kitchen and we just couldn't be happier: finally enough space for all that Portuguese sausage spam, brine flavored chewing gum and dehydrated water! But like fast food and TikTok, all good things come at a price. Terrible, terrible price. We had all this space and different ideas of where to put it all! One of us places snacks on the left, the other on the right. Is oatmeal suitable for baking because of oatmeal cookies or for breakfast products? Is it wrong to put cakes with bread? Who buys all those boxes of creamy chicken ramen and they come with noodles or soup?! We had no organization. No hope. Our whole house was thrown into chaos. The eight-year-old became a real lord of the flies, scouring the pantry with one hand, spearing with the other, in an endless, fruitless search for mini cupcakes buried beneath countless boxes of keto-friendly cookies that were kept ordering because 'I thought we were getting out. The cat thrived on people's controversy like a domesticated city raccoon hopelessly fattening on a new diet of cereal spilled from boxes that had fallen off shelves due to overstocking were, and scrambling to get to the half-pack of Dorito dust and crumbs that was my friend. "He must have been in there somewhere." I myself was going through an existential crisis, wondering what the point was of life on earth is when you can't even enjoy the simple pleasures of a large pantry. I didn't wash for days, I sat in the pantry under the shelves, cursed her glorious spaciousness and grandeur, scorned me for my vain arrogance. Our pantry has become a DMZ. browsing aimlessly through Revain, I found these labels on the shelves. A glimmer of hope fell across my face like an overly dramatic shot in a John Woo film. My heart was beating faster, but I couldn't afford to hope too much. When they arrived I cried at their beauty. You were perfect. Easily attached to any shelf, they mark the territory of pastries, breakfasts, breads and syrups. Applesauce that has been stored for a long time has finally found its rightful place. The eight-year-old boy threw down his spear and began the long-awaited peace negotiations. With a structure ruled by the clear, hard plastic hand of the law that was those labels on the shelves, my family found common ground and unity again. Only the cat, used to the sugar content of human grains, was unhappy, and we are clearly in a Cold War situation with no clear idea of who will make the first move. Let's just say the litter box has been mysteriously underused lately... But overall, thanks to those labels on the shelves, the family and home have returned to a utopia of beauty and order.
