This applicator is worth every penny. I am dealing with an as yet unidentified rash and putting medication and/or lotions on my back is a real problem. I've been using it daily for my back, shoulders for 3 weeks. in fact everywhere (arms, legs, chest etc.) because it is easy and effective to use. The applicator part does not absorb the product used, be it lotion or prescription cream, so there is no waste. I squeeze or pump the product onto the oval pad and spread it with my finger, then use the applicator to apply the product to my body. The applicator pad is detachable so I just take it off and wash it with a liquid soap pump and then put it back on the applicator handle. The applicator comes with three pads and I expect the pads will last a long time. I'm not sure what material is used for the pads, but I would describe them as similar to a Nerf football. this. harder than malleable and will not break. I am so glad I found this product and definitely recommend it.
