In short, this thing is too bright to put anywhere in front of you. You wouldn't think, but it actually made my night vision worse when I looked near it. However, I still use it. Here's how: I need soft lighting for the center console area of my SUV. Very dark. Since this thing looked like a little sun, I had to spray paint it black, leaving only a small wedge shaped area between the 5-7 o'clock positions unpainted, and painting the rest and the entire face (in multiple layers). Only then did it light up the console area with a slight blue glow. Without modification this thing would be good for illuminating the glove box or armrest storage compartment but again too bright for any position in front of the driver.
