Review on CURT 122463 Trailer Receiver Pontiac by Emilio Wallace

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Very good receiver for my goat!

I bought this hitch receiver to haul my bikes with my 2006 GTO. The instructions said it would take a professional about 60 minutes to install. I'm mechanical by nature and can usually finish in the time stated, but in this case it was actually easier than the manufacturer stated. I installed the hitch in under 30 minutes and you could probably attach this thing without even lifting your GTO. The instructions say there are 12 plastic clips to remove along with a large piece of plastic trim, but I only found four on the rear bumper. I removed them, removed the two screws holding the clutch piece to the skid plate, and loosened the screw on the front of the skid plate, which gave me enough room to work without having to remove it entirely. Where the receiver exits is a small piece of plastic that flips up on the bezel and is held in place by two of the four plastic clips. You will either have to cut this piece off if you want the plastic back or fold it over and it will snap off which I did. My ONLY complaint was that the manufacturer provided you with spare nuts, bolts and washers. One of the bolts used on my 06 did not match the nut size listed in the instructions. Luckily, Pontiac had nuts like it was a part they didn't want to use. It worked perfectly. The other bolt fits the nut that came with the hitch BUT the cone washers that came with it don't fit at all (too tight). It's not Revane's fault, but I'll speak to Kurt to see if they have parts that actually work. That's the only reason I didn't give 5 stars. Installation is much easier than the instructions say, and the clutch is barely noticeable. I'm using a Thule 917XT 1.25" pallet mount bike carrier with this towbar. This works perfectly, but I found one bad thing: how low the towbar is tucked under the car, it doesn't provide enough extension to accommodate the folding function of my rack In the stowed position the wheel mount rests against the bumper and it takes me about three more inches to ensure there is no contact in case the brace buckles when I hit a bump, considering the fit I think "that ANY pallet mounted folding bike rack is going to run into the same problem. If it's a big deal you could probably buy an extension but you would lose the strength of the rack attachment with the included lock which prevents wiggle and wobble. Overall it was an easy install, a great looking product and a very affordable revain mi t free shipping. There is no other attachment manufacturer that makes a receiver for the 2004-2006 GTO, but you won't be disappointed, everything just bolts on - no drilling or special tools required for installation.

Pros
  • RELIABLE STRENGTH. With a strong welded steel construction, this Class 2 hitch is rated for 3,500 lbs. total trailer weight and 350 lbs. Drawbar weight (limited to lowest pull component)
Cons
  • Legacy model
