Sharp mandolin. Gloves may be too small

I have never owned a mandolin prior to this Sanikeon due to the inherent risk of having a bladed kitchen tool. I used a juicer to cut carrots and zucchini. This is safer, but only suitable for small batches. The mandolin saves a lot of time, but special care must be taken when using it. I'm glad it comes with gloves because I could cut my fingers the first time I used it. Always wear gloves when working with this tool! It took a little trial and error on first use getting the slices to the right thickness and learning how to slide the detachable blade in and out of the food slicer. I tried cooking taro chips in a deep fryer. My first batch was too thick and for the first few passes, my pinky touched the surface of the mandolin. Therefore, gloves should always be worn! The "Darth Vader Helm" food stand works very well and slides smoothly over the mandolin. Only a thin piece of taro remained. My complaints are relatively minor. The gloves are small and the adjustment knob is difficult to read. The brush that comes with the kit does not have enough surface area to easily clean the mandolin. I got the bottle brush from Dr. Brown used. The blade cover is also difficult to put back on. Do not throw away! For safety reasons, it should be put on again before storage. Since we have young children, I keep it on the top shelf of my wall cabinets.
