Review on Sony Alpha ILCE-7M2 Body, Black: High-Performance Camera for Professional Photography by Wiktor Iwanski ᠌

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Quality is top notch, happy with everything.

This model strikes the ideal mix in terms of the quality to price ratio for the varied responsibilities that fall under the purview of an amateur photographer. There are hardly any situations in which the camera would struggle to perform adequately. But what's even more impressive is that she can remain composed while shooting images and videos. Scenes such as landscapes, portraits, macro, and other types of photography show off the capabilities of the camera. You have access to a vast selection of optics made by third-party manufacturers. In such a scenario, the matrix stabilizer will reliably perform its function (3 or 5 axes, depending on the adapter and lens used). Using the digital viewfinder makes manual focusing simple and straightforward. Due to the fact that the 24MP sensor is not the most sensitive (it is better than any crop, but it is less sensitive than the full-frame sensors of DSLRs of the D750 type), it is best to remain in the ISO 50.3200 to Karai 6400 range in order to maintain the highest possible image quality. It is in your best interest to upgrade to the most recent version of the firmware as soon as possible in order to ensure optimal performance when shooting in RAW 14-bit. Unfortunately, the prices and quality of native FE optics leave a lot to be desired (I personally use only the FE 16-35/4), but by using adapters, you can successfully use lenses with a Minolta A mount (excellent LA-EA3), Canon EF (good Metabones MB-EF-E-BT4 and Sigma MC-11), or Nikon F mount (excellent LA-EA3) (satisfactory Commlite CM-ENF-E1). You would need to use the LA-EA4 in order to achieve compatibility with Sony A optics in sequential shooting modes. However, the AF system on the LA-EA4 is dated, and there is no adapter that is more recent. As a consequence of this, the Sony A7M2 camera ended up being such a successful addition to the photographic system, particularly if you already own a Canon or Sony camera that has an A-mount. But, even if you do not have this, the camera is ideal for use as the primary camera for an experienced photography enthusiast who does not wish to restrict himself to the optics of a single photography system.

Pros
  • Superb ergonomics, no sense of slow operation, and an effective sensor image stabilizer are some of the highlights of this camera, along with its light weight and tiny size for a full-format camera. The digital viewfinder does an excellent job overall. + + Very helpful manual focus tools, including a digital magnifier and focus peaking + Convenience and high video production quality when shooting + With the most recent version of the firmware, it enables the use of adapters to utilize AF phase sensors. + Cost that is lower than average for its category.
Cons
  • A sensor of this size could potentially have a higher sensitivity and lower noise level. - Expensive optics made from native E material, which are frequently not of the highest quality (including build quality). - Compatibility with the Minolta A mount that is less than optimal AF is not very strong when it comes to reporting on difficult topics. Compressing 14-bit RAW data is not very effective, and if it is not compressed, a significant amount of space is lost on the memory card. Because the battery does not have a lengthy lifespan, you will need to purchase more batteries.
