The thing is definitely a clever idea: instead of filtering the coffee that goes into your cup, just filter it before it gets into your mouth. But in the real world, the disadvantages of this approach outweigh the advantages, in my opinion. First, drinking a hot beverage through a straw is risky. Without a straw, you can take the first sips and suck in air along with hot liquid. This cools the liquid and lets you understand how hot it is. The liquid just comes out on the tongue through the straw, bam. If it's too hot, you'll burn yourself. Another thing I consider a disadvantage is that when you drink your coffee and the coffee grounds become concentrated, you end up with the least aesthetically pleasing cup of coffee in the world; It looks like the leftovers of a failed mud cake recipe. From a practical point of view, cleaning the cup once you're done with your coffee/porridge becomes a chore than a regular cup of coffee. You have to flush the floor with lots of water, which can be difficult in a camping environment. There are many other one-cup coffee brewing options that require minimal equipment. I think most of them are preferable to this gadget.
