This is my 3rd Self Pro Balaclava, I have owned and used balaclavas before - Windproof Ski Mask - Cold Weather Face Mask Motorcycle Neck Gaiter or Balaclava Tactical Hood. I use these masks extensively for walking/running 5/6 miles each in very cold weather. This new mask is an improvement on the original windshield design. The individual segments of the mask and the seams are positioned differently, giving the impression (at least to me) that the mask was made to order. The inside of the mask is lined with a very soft material, making it even more effective at keeping you warm and dry. The best change so far is the front of the mask: it has extra material in the nose-mouth area, which makes it easier to breathe while remaining dry (the original mask gets wet when you take a breather). The shape of the head area is ideal for wearing under a hat. The altered seams also make it much easier to route the headphone cords outside of the mask. I wear a Bluetooth wireless headset that loses connection when wearing it in a mask. With the previous design it was a bit difficult to route the cable, with this new design there is a little more room as the fabric covers the ear. I've used this mask in wind-adapted temperatures around 25 degrees Fahrenheit and have always been very comfortable. Update: January 2018: I now wear this mask during negative wind chill periods (the worst so far has been -4°F) and I'm still very comfortable. I've been running in <10°F for the last week with no problems, and the cold wind doesn't seem to be a factor as long as I remember to wear a mask to cover my brows, unlike in my photos.
