It's a rocky slope: Having discovered the 'Finishing Salt' a few months earlier, one need not settle for just ground pepper in a prosaic shaker. My wife liked it the moment it came out of the box but it looks useless - you know what it's like! We've been really happy with how well it grinds, as well as the ability to grind coarser or finer, whichever size you prefer. It appears to be solidly made; We only use it once or twice a day and have only been using it for 2 or 3 months but I hope it lasts. I remember learning about the emerging concept of "planned obsolescence" in the American economy in high school around 1958 - and our dying planet lived to see it! I expect this topic to go against the tide.
