Review on Triple Eight Galaxy Wristguards Elbow by Jose Brunson

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Very cute but ultimately disappointing

I've had several adult sets of Origin 8 products (outdoor pads, kp22 pads, wrists I and II) so I hoped the Quality comparable would be their youth pads. The bracelets that come with this set are identical to the adult version which is great! Unfortunately the quality of the knee pads and elbow pads in this set is second to none and they don't compare to youth pads from any other major brand that I'm looking to upgrade. For starters, this set currently costs $20 more than my set. I want to upgrade (but only $15 more than I paid 2 years ago) so I think it's fair to expect more comfort, quality etc. But instead of getting more, I found I was simply paying a lot more for a lot less. To be fair this set is amazing in the tough way - which it seems you are really paying for as there are compromises in the design of too many key areas for knee and elbow pads to be considered serious protective gear. The foam inserts for the knee and elbow pads are visibly thin, like shin guard foam in football. There is no stretch fabric sleeve on the back of the knee pads or elbow pads to keep the elastic straps from chafing against the skin - not a problem if your kids don't move much or wear pads over their clothes, but mine always sweat. and prefer to wear shorts and t-shirts when skating. Finally, the very cool nylon webbing used for the front of the knee and elbow pads is probably the thinnest nylon material I've seen in skate pads. It's really disappointing so I'm returning this set and opting for a generic brand that seems to have all the comfort and safety features I'm looking for. I usually embroider labels on my protective gear so it doesn't bother me at all.
