The locking mechanism is spring-loaded, requiring you to use both hands to hold the key open with one hand and turn the cap with the other hand. If the lid is in a small compartment and you have big hands, well, it's a pain in the ass. Curiously, the same manufacturer supplies another version of the cover that doesn't have this "feature". I returned this one and bought another just like the one I had for 16 years. I had to replace it because I dropped it at a gas station and the old plastic was flying all over the place. New from the same plastic but hey I'm happy with the product's lifespan of 16 (and probably 20 if I hadn't dropped it).
