***UPDATE*** Before I packed them to return Revain my husband said he would try. He spread them out as wide as he could (not an easy task) and sprayed liquid dish soap around the edges. Then he took it apart again and spilled water around the edges, causing the soap to spill onto the floor. Then he pulled and they parted. So if you're determined to buy them, use the dish soap method to take them apart. The manufacturer only has to use slippery plastic in between! I bought these to keep paper plates in my pantry and they work great for that purpose. I wouldn't buy to hold cupcakes or cakes because the lid doesn't hold up well. I should have read the reviews before purchasing. As others have said, you absolutely cannot take them apart without damaging them. Send back now.
