I have 5 Red-eared Sliders and I'm sure many Red-eared Sliders owners know that they are very angry! My oldest red-eared slider has lived with me for over 18 years and she is very picky and hates pellet food! She has been laying unfertilized eggs for over 6 years (she has no mate) and the eggs always take a toll on her calcium levels. I usually take her to the vet for a calcium shot during the laying season. In July of this year she laid an "egg" without a shell, I took her to the vet and they told me she had very low calcium levels and needed to change her diet immediately. She loves raw shrimp and fish, so she always fights against eating pellets and goes on a hunger strike. Knowing this, I was hesitant to buy her pellets, but once I read the ingredients list and the fact that these pellets are high in calcium and probiotics, I bought them and hoped for the best. All my turtles are now eating Turtle Nutristick and I have noticed that they are digesting their food better now (more excrement) and their shells are growing too! Last August my turtle, which was low on calcium, laid another egg, this time with a shell, and today (October) she laid 4 eggs with a perfect shell! Needless to say, this stuff is good! She's not fighting those balls! She still gets treats here and there, but I fortify Nutisticks more because she can be very healthy and strong! Hope this helps all tortoise parents! You're not alone!
