Note that these pans are definitely not "non-stick". You MUST use paper cups. If you don't use paper, oil is unacceptable - if you do, you'll leave a big burnt mess - that needs a thorough cleaning! If you ask the Emperor about it, he will say that you should use oil, NOT oil. (Interesting). In fact, I actually used the oil a few times and had an uncomfortable stickiness as well. Jamie Oliver Non-Stick Carbon Steel Muffin Pans REALLY work!
