The cover must be removed as a mount and is not hinged to the iPad.
Adding pictures is misleading. The cover is a separate bulky piece that is difficult to remove. This makes for very good coverage, but not very good footing. It doesn't clip down when opened for use, so you're stuck with that big, bulky thing while you sit and use your iPad. It's also difficult to swipe up to switch apps unless you're standing upright. I will use it now but will definitely buy a more practical iPad case or mount.
