I think it is masking tape. It's great for keeping my parchment paper on paper charts and other prints for tracking purposes. It removes a microscopic layer on some types of paper, but most I've used it on hasn't damaged the paper, and I was able to remove the tape once it was done with no side effects. Just pull slowly and carefully and don't leave it on the foil for too long. Sometimes when I'm putting duct tape on a sensitive area, I'll run my finger over the sticky side of the duct tape a few times to reduce the stickiness. Works perfectly.
