I have researched this amp before. I have KEF LS50 passive speakers and this amp drives them beautifully. I have this setup in a large room and it still works great. In a smile room built for media, this amp/speaker combo would be unbeatable. This is really a reference kit with a KEF/Marantz arrangement. This amp is simply warm or neutral. KEF are completely neutral, so their overall sound corresponds to the musical aspect. I'd say I was concerned about the sound when choosing a speaker, not to mention that these speakers are notorious for being difficult to drive. But the amp really lets them sing, so the feedback amp section is really bulletproof. I think your choice of speakers should be based on character and efficiency. This amplifier can drive any speaker within the recommended power range. It annoys me a bit that AIFF files are not processed natively, so I had to convert thousands of files to WAV. Even if you're new to networked streaming amps or tech-savvy, you need to learn. I'm not a big fan of HEOS, mainly because the app sucks. You'll need to use the HEOS app for almost everything to interact with this device, stream music, and read from a USB drive. I've also noticed that when reading from a USB stick, the HEOS app doesn't recognize the artist or album information. When you select "Browse" in the app, all of the music is sorted by artist and you can navigate to the album and then the track. It seems strange that the app can do this but doesn't show the artist when you select it. Minor inconveniences aside. When it comes to music, this thing is in the zone. I immediately noticed that some recordings failed because this amp reveals details for both the good and the bad. I absolutely love this amp. But don't waste your money on it unless you plan on pairing it with speakers that get it right.
