Review on ๐ŸŽญ Mehron Makeup SynWax: Professional 10 oz Synthetic Modeling Wax by Tamara Allen

Used to create "healed " amputation scars on my knees - very glad I tried it for the first time!

I bought this specifically for special effects for a short film. We wanted to create an image of a man with amputated legs. After looking at pictures online, I thought the actress was kneeling in a wheelchair, and then I drew thick T-shaped scars on her knees. First I applied dark bluish lines to her knees with eyeshadow and then waxed over the lines. I used a small spatula to blend the edges of the wax into the skin. At this point it looks awful - just very rough and broken. But wait! Adding a small amount of mineral oil to my finger allowed me to smooth out the sharp edges. The wax is translucent, so the base color of the makeup shows through, leaving some pretty convincing scars. I added some color to the wax myself - again with eyeshadow - and blended it in with my finger. The actress had to bend her knees, and yet the wax stayed in place with no excess glue/gum. . I also used a dull knife to add "seam" lines to the scars and some other stitch-like textures. I considered adding real threads for stitching but wanted the scars to look mostly healed. I'm new to this type of makeup, so I was very impressed that I was able to achieve the desired result in just a few trial runs. . Very happy with this item! For those who say it's difficult to work with, I haven't had many issues, although I was concerned given some of the feedback. I hollowed it out with a knife and then kneaded it a bit. Applying a very light coat of oil (or petroleum jelly as others have said) helps it stick less to your hands. But yes it will stick and cleaning is a pain but again it worked for me.

Pros
  • Easy to use
Cons
  • I vaguely remember
