Review on Canon EF 50mm f/1.4 USM lens, black by Yusri Mohd ᠌

Revainrating 4 out of 5

The product is completely satisfied, performs its functions.

The Canon EF 50mm f/1.4 USM is a very versatile glass that is easy to work with. Do not be afraid to break it, many are afraid to touch it)) In fact, at least it can damage the helicoid, but it should be a tangible effort or blow, and most often it is quite painlessly corrected and repair costs disassembly and assembly. Canon needed to add only 1mm of metal to the helicoid and the lens would have turned out to be indestructible, but apparently this was not part of their plans)) But for creative tasks, I would recommend an amateur to take f / 1.8 STM (But only if you don’t have, for example, 50 / 1.2L).

Pros
  • -Aperture 1.4, and if you get into focus, the image is a little soft, but quite suitable. -Distance scale. It happens in difficult conditions, she helps out and gives the last chance. -Beautiful background blur. -To obtain sharp images, you do not need to hold down the aperture strongly, starting from f2.8, the XA and the razor in the center disappear. Next, I will compare this lens a little with the EF 50 / 1.8 STM.
Cons
  • -HA. At 1.4 in difficult conditions there can be huge purple highlights. 1.8 inferior to STM. Moreover, in STM XA at F2 is almost invisible, and 50 / 1.4 is pulled up only to F2.8. -Vignetting on cameras with a full frame sensor. Here, on the contrary, at f1.8 50 / 1.4 shows a slightly better result than STM and also leads a little at other apertures. - Circle of confusion. 50 / 1.4 has 8 aperture blades, while STM has one less and one would think that the younger brother would be worse here, but no ! In STM, a rounded diaphragm and nuts begin to appear only with Ф4-4.5, and in 50 / 1.4 nuts will go with a minimum preload. The focusing ring does not rest on infinity as on old manual optics, but this is also found on Elks.

With its pros. Perfect quality, beautiful bokeh, better body than 50 1.8 II. Got cons: Despite the fact that usm focuses slowly, the tube with the front lens is very vulnerable.
