Not as functional as Breville

Hoping to find the perfect toaster I chose the Deluxe and was disappointed. Pros: Stylish, durable, looks well built. Bad: Missing support for bread, pastries, whatever. The zigzag wire used to support and lift the toast leaves plenty of room on either side for thin slices to fall into the machine. For example, pop tarts can fall off easily, especially when children are using the machine. The design has extra supports at the bottom that catch the item after it falls - not sure why they didn't do better. I miss Breville's "Just a Little Bit" feature, which adds about 30 seconds of toast with no change. any other settings. With this machine you have to turn the handle all the way down, but you risk wasting too much time. The roast isn't even side-to-side, it's uneven across the surface. At this price, the bread should come out perfectly toasted on both sides, with minimal or no under-toasting. Our Breville has served us well for many, many years. Once I had to fix it, the heating element wires had weak contacts that needed to be soldered/re-soldered. Easy to fix, so don't throw it away if it breaks.
