I've tried other retractable gates for kids and hated them. They broke out of the wall, cleaned poorly and didn't properly account for the baseboard. I assumed they were all the same and I would have hated this one equally, but I'm so glad I gave it a chance. It is 1000 times better than others. First of all, the installation was very easy. I was a little confused by the instructions at first, but once I figured it out there was nothing wrong with the instructions...it only took my brain a minute to figure it out. The small brackets have sticky pads so you can place them and then remove the gate to mark and drill through. My only complaint is that the sticky pad was very strong and ripped off the paint and the top layer of drywall when I removed it. Luckily I installed it on one stud so I didn't have to remove the other, just drilled a small pilot hole for the screws right through. The bottom bracket adjusts up and down, allowing me to go higher to avoid the basebar and quarter circle and it still feels very secure. Snap-on tails were also easy to install. I also installed it on a stud so I didn't have to use anchors. The latches have holes in two places so you can mount them on a wall directly opposite the main gate or on a wall going the other way like I did. It's actually a lot easier to operate the gate than others I've tried. It extends and retracts very well and the latch is just a couple of hooks to bypass the latches so it's a lot easier than a pole that you have to line up and latch like the others. My 5 year old easily manages to move while my 3 and 1 year olds are still in (or out of) space in my case. The blocking function will continue to slow the gate's retraction, but will not pull it out any further, preventing the gate from simply being pushed into the net and capturing the ground. The gate is still low enough that we as parents can easily climb over it without unlocking it every time. They also come with extra hardware and sticky pads in case you need to move them in the future. Overall I'm very happy with this gate and I got a very quick and easy installation with only 8 small holes in my walls. I can buy more if I need more goals in the future. Since they take up so little space and are easy to use, I'm sure I could find many other places to use them. I would definitely recommend it, especially in places where traditional gates are difficult to install. It says it's safe for the top of the stairs, but personally I wouldn't recommend it in case you forget to lock it or the brackets pop out of the wall or something.
