We already had an 'instant read' thermometer from our local kitchen store. If I was grilling, I would put it in the food and wait maybe a minute for the reading to stabilize. Then we have this Adoric and. Impressive! It's quite large, easier to handle if you put on oven gloves, it's magnetic so it will stay on my grill table or in our fridge. Pulling out the probe is like opening a jackknife - turns on the thermometer. The probe is long, which keeps my hands off the grid, and really seems to read instantly, in less than a second. The numbers are read. Although the instructions warn against prolonged submersion, I briefly submerged the entire device without damage. It even came with an extra battery. Oh, and there's a built-in bottle opener! Using a thermometer like this has really improved my cooking - fish and other meat can be cooked to perfection, no raw meat surprises on the dining table. i really like this one. The only question I still haven't solved is this: if we leave it open, does it turn off automatically so as not to drain the battery?
