This item requires 8 AA batteries, as digital night vision is considered digital this product is of the highest quality. I've used actual military night vision, and where they haven't (and definitely in the wrong price range) it has blown me away at how well it works and has worked. My 8 year old son and 12 year old daughter have a digital version of the PVS-14. This article was the first introduction to digital night vision, but it had many shortcomings. You could use it while sitting still, but the displacement you saw when you tried to walk with it like it was real night vision was awful! This product is very similar to mobile phone screen, better field of view and graphics. You can hold it in front of your face and walk around all night. It's truly amazing how far digital night vision has come in just a few short years and I'm very excited to see what this company will produce next! Great product at a great price!
