I have to say. After reading some of the original reviews I was very nervous. I've seen many people point out how difficult it was to get this to work. In my case, I had trouble not only turning the device on, but also opening it wide enough for my hair. The instructions don't say that you have to manually move the lever at the base of the device and then push the plates apart. (Unless I got it wrong) The manual also doesn't say you have to press and hold the power button for four seconds before the auxiliary heater indicator light activates. You got it right. When you connect the device, the blue indicator lights up. But the plates don't get hot. You have to hold down the button and the light will come on, illuminating the temperature control area. Then you can set your own temperature. thanks me later
