Review on Baseus 8-in-1 Samsung Dex Docking Station, USB C to 4K HDMI Adapter with DeX Station, Desktop Experience for Samsung Galaxy S20/S10/S9/S8, Note 10/9 by Ricardo Ware

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Good product, good customer service - just make sure your phone can actually play 4K

UPDATE: After posting my first review I was contacted by the seller/manufacturer asking about my concerns. They were very accommodating and offered to either refund my purchase or replace my device due to an available USB-C port. I went with the replacement option as I like the dock. The unit I received as a replacement does not have the same loose connector issue as the original I purchased. The connector isn't as tight on the cable as I'd like, but it's strong enough that the cable won't come loose on its own. I added an extra star to my rating based on my experience with Baseus customer service. If Baseus would add a disclaimer to the product page that not all phones can output 4K videos (I originally bought this hoping to get 4K videos out of my Samsung Galaxy S9. It turns out this phone maxes out at 1080p) , then I would change my 5 star rating. However, I think the advertising is misleading. The product page mentions several times that the device outputs a 4K 30Hz signal. While the dock is capable of this, your phone probably isn't. Samsung Dex, the software this device is said to be optimized for, has a maximum output resolution of 1440p, and it only goes up to 1080p on some models. My Samsung Galaxy S9 doesn't go beyond 1080p (yes, I checked with an HDMI 2.0 cable plugged into an HDMI 2.0 port to make sure everything is up to date). I think it's my fault for not checking before purchasing this product, but the product page clearly states that the 4k30hz output is compatible with all modern Samsung phones including the Galaxy S9. The product page should state more clearly that while the dock supports 4k30, your phone may not. By the way, on my device, the USB-C PD port is very free. I'm using a brand new Samsung Type-C cable and the slightest movement will cause it to disconnect from the connector.
