This handy little tool helped me make sure some of the drainage ditches I dug would actually go - make sure they went downhill. You install the rope connected to the stakes every 5-6 feet, making sure the strong part is level. Then measure the distance from the string to the bottom of the trench, making sure it drops at least 1/8 inch every 5 feet. Pretty easy with the right tools. It was a big help for a small price.
