Revainrating 4 out of 5

You get what you pay for.

I bought this scale for use in archery and other archery related crafts. Pros: 1. Very accurate in gn (grain) mode (used in archery), etc.2. Pocket size for easy travel. Compact.3. The case is bright orange in color, making it easy to distinguish from other instruments.4. The lid is held closed with two fairly strong magnets. The plastic clips are more likely to break.5. Good battery life.6. Easy calibration and easy to read display.7. Including adjustment weight.8. The weighing platform is raised above the side walls and the LCD screen. This allows me to weigh arrows that obviously won't fit on the scale platform long enough.9. Finally, the price is great for what you get and the frequent feedback emails tell me that the company cares about their product. I appreciate that very much. Disadvantages: 1. You have to calibrate often. For me I have to calibrate at every start. Zero button would be nice.2. Some of them disappear on the LCD screen when the calibration weight is removed or when the sides and face are touched. I am concerned about the longevity and/or durability of the LCD screen.3. The scale sometimes has a negative weight when the object is removed. I've done this 10 times, with the calibration weight getting a different value more than half the time. If the weight isn't perfectly centered, accuracy will go bad. I duplicated this by placing a weight at each corner including the center which gave different results. However, I have found that warming up the scale (+70 degrees Fahrenheit) gives better results. This information is included in the user manual, so read it carefully before you are disappointed. The hinges on the lid have too much play. While the magnets keep the lid closed well, I would expect the hinges to fail at some point. Just like now, the lid easily slides back and forth when closed.5. The lid or battery cover is not waterproof. I don't plan on getting the scale wet of course, but the batteries could be corroded by escaping gasses looking for nearby ground rods. This is normal and not a malfunction of the scale, but of the battery itself. In my opinion, the moisture finds the worn contacts and starts to rust, creating a mess. Look at a child's toy whose batteries have been stored for more than 6 months, or your car with exposed luggage racks. Rust and corrosion may occur there due to this effect.6. The manual does not include a weight conversion table or weight definition. Of course, I can just jump into the computer and find any transformation or definition I need, but like some people, I'm lazy with my research. I don't know what deadweight means or how it's used etc. But I didn't buy a chart, I bought a scale so I was hesitant to make it a scam. $20 question! Would I buy this product again or recommend it to a friend? Yes I would buy it again :) I feel like I got a better product than what I paid for. Also, while shopping, I found that most comparable store-bought products would cost me more, if not twice as much, but of lower quality. A recommendation to a friend is also a happy yes. If a person kept this at work or in a store I can see there would be very few problems to speak of. If you are in a more hostile environment such as hiking, panning for gold etc. I would recommend a different and most likely more expensive scale. As a mechanic, I believe any tool works best when used properly. BTW, if Brifit wants to appeal to the archery community (pun intended), I would suggest Armin Hirmer of Malta Archery. He is well known and respected for his reviews on Youtube, Facebook etc. Clay Hayes with CH Archery would be different. Search Youtube and you will find a few. I don't know any of them personally, but the archery community is larger than some might think. We all use scales, even hobbyists like me. Thanks Kevin Vandenburg.
