Get a rough idea

I bought this looking for an affordable option. I don't think that's the most accurate, but I think it can give you a rough idea. If that's what you're looking for, this might work. I've used it on many cars, on many paints, in many different conditions. Here's what I found. I only saw numbers 2, 4, 6 and 8. I put it on solid patches of rust where absolutely no paint was visible and it still says 2. Maybe I'm not getting it right but it should read 0. And the It was given in units of microns. Personally, I'm looking for a little more accuracy, so I'll look for another more expensive device.
