Looks good, smells terrible - needs airing

Very strange. Looks good but smells like motor oil. It's like being in a car dealership workshop. This is bad. I was able to separate the sheets and leave them in the garage for a few days and then use them. I wouldn't buy it again. Why on earth would a manufacturer think this is normal with a product that you're giving as a gift?
