Good projector, great sound, lighter weight, lower resolution, lower cost

We bought a ViewSonic M1 and a LG PH550 to see which one best suited our needs. We ended up with LG, but I wanted to give the M1 a quick review because it was still a good projector. M1 is comfortable to hold. This is a very portable size. It has a good short throw, which means a big screen even when it's close to a wall. It has a lot of automatic features so you don't have to worry about clicking through a bunch of menus to get everything done. Automatic power on/off when opening/closing the stand, automatic image adjustment when the projector orientation changes, automatic input selection, etc. The speakers are one of the M1's outstanding features. They have really good sound that fills the room. No separate speaker is required unless you want to experience the thunder of a powerful system. The stand is well designed and makes it really easy to position the projector the way you want it. Why did we choose LG? After all, LG's brightness and resolution is better than M1's even though it's $100 more expensive, right?! We thought we could make up for the poorer speaker quality with other solutions, but couldn't make up for the image difference. We needed to be able to distinguish finer details like short words and such, so the LG was a better fit, but we were so impressed with the M1 that we felt like hailing it as a good projector for the price. Good price. You just need a darker room to get the most out of it.
