Caldera + Lab's The Base Layer Moisturizing Face Cream is an extra thick, creamy overnight product that comes in a simple, durable 1.7 ounce beautiful black glass jar and at the time of this Review costs $55. This "premium beauty" moisturizer is priced to match the C+L brand (e.g. facial oil and cleanser). The base coat has a very herbal, earthy scent with plenty of skin-friendly oils and plant extracts. Yes, it feels very thick, but when applied to the skin, the slightly off-white cream spreads well and absorbs quickly to a semi-matte finish. Doesn't feel heavy or uncomfortable. For reference, I am a 40 year old female with reactive (sensitive), combination and hyperemia prone skin. Although Caldera + Lab is aimed at men, their products can be used by people of all ages and genders in the morning and evening hours. Overall I like the quality and use of the cream although I think it's expensive for what you get. There are over-the-counter, unscented creams that are just as moisturizing as this one. However, the base coat is very comfortable and has not caused any irritation, pimples, rashes, excessive oiliness or pimples.
