These bars are carved from real wood (not pressed), the color is said to be natural, but there is no coating, so they even smell like wood. The images are bright and fun. My 15 month old loves building towers with blocks and then knocking them down. He also looks at the pictures of animals on the walls of the neighborhood with interest. The only problem I noticed is that the edges of the blocks are pretty sharp. This wasn't a problem as I only let my child play with blocks when I'm around, but I think it makes the toy more suitable for older children.
