because it was solid when assembled and looked good. The problem was "putting everything together". I don't recommend this bed for someone who doesn't like the drill or Jenga game as I had to re-drill the holes in line with the center slat and the rest of the slat setup was a tedious balancing effort until you get the ends screwed. The holes on the railing do not line up with the brackets. This is a manufacturing defect. What I did was loosen the brackets and then use a 1/4 bit bit to re-drill the holes so the screws line up and slide. This was followed by a game of slat jenga, which while not a disadvantage is not easy and requires some patience. Bottom line: my 3 year old daughter LOVES it :)
