Review on Wireless Solar Driveway Alarm System - Long Range Outdoor Motion Sensor & Detector, Weather Resistant - Monitor and Protect Your Driveway with Wireless Alarms by Tim Airy

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Great value, gets the job done, expandable - more than just a driveway alarm, lots of extras

From Manhattan to a small town in North Carolina I used to park in a lot for $350 a month. Now in our new home with a 1/4 mile paved road; nice to know when someone has entered my property. So I started looking for a driveway alarm. Many here were overpriced, I'm no cheapskate but I insist on the value of my retirement dollars. I wanted to know beforehand when someone was coming to my front door; it was badly needed. Expandability was also important as there were multiple additions to my new home. There are many options, first and later. My initial setup uses Zone One as I left the default settings as shipped. It is allowed to add additional sensors to zone 1 by using additional sensors. Or additional sensors can be assigned to zones 2, 3 and 4. Each zone beeps differently, so you don't have to pay attention to the indicators on the base station. Understanding "range”, or in other words how far it works The detection range is 20 or 30 feet, enough to detect a car or a person. 1/4 mile is the maximum communication from the sensor to the base station that can "sound the alarm" and adjust the volume. Mine is about 1/8 mile from home, my trees are many but the signal goes through them. Some nice features that I really like. Of course, the sensors store their charge using sunlight or just daylight, but when a sensor isn't charged, the low sensor indicator on the base station will be lit. The base station allows you to put 4 regular AA batteries, which makes the alarm immune to power outages (probably when the scammers are most active). It's also nice to be able to take the base station (on battery) into the garage while it awaits delivery. Most of the time, the base station is powered by the included power adapter and USB cable. Many others do essentially the same thing for a lot more, some even cheaper - a lot of money. I also love that it has a 'set it and forget it' system - once installed the kids know when Santa is coming. A sensor and a base station will not be enough for me. I plan to add more sensors using the base station's built-in 4-zone capabilities. A modification of the manual, confirmed by technical support - it is ALLOWED to install multiple sensors in one zone. But it probably makes more sense to assign the first 4 sensors to each individual zone to get different alarms from different zones.

Pros
  • SUPERIOR QUALITY - The outdoor driveway warning system is constructed with an industrial grade PVC housing, rubberised weather/water seal and is powered by a single solar panel operated. rechargeable.
Cons
  • New competitors have arrived
