Garmin NUvi 55LMT

I've had Garmin, TomTom, Magellan, now back to Garmin. The Magellan 3045 was too slow to pick up a signal and often continued to give directions as if I was following a specific route when in fact I wasn't. Eventually he'll sit up and find out where I am, but not soon enough in my opinion. I liked Tom Tom until my upgrade. After that it never worked properly and I lost the voice function that was important to me. There was no workable solution and others had the same problem. Since I paid extra for the upgrade but then had problems, I won't be buying TomTom again. On an older Garmin, The one I have (in the guy's car now) has keys that often get stuck, especially in cold weather. Very frustrating, I think with this new Garmin that won't be a problem anymore. Voice instructions are clear enough. The pronunciation may be wrong, but you get the gist. So far, with limited use, the Garmin nuvi 55 is fairly fast and redirects well. While I would not say that the paths given are the ones I would take in a familiar area, they do lead a person to the desired goal. Some POIs are not found. I did some testing at my local scrap yard the other day. He finds others, but not the one closest to me. I even wrote the name of the polygon. He worked with the address. I have not tested the traffic function. Features I don't like: 1) Call triggered when approaching school area. Loud enough, I hop! I can't find a way to disable this feature. I want to turn up the volume to hear directions, but this ringing is just annoying. If anyone knows how to disable this feature, I'd appreciate a comment! I don't feel like I need to be warned about the school zone - I have my eyes on it. 2) There is no external way to adjust the volume. TomTom had it and I found it much easier to use and more secure. 3) I can't find a way to make it beep before turning. He definitely gives directions ahead of time, but sometimes it's just in time before the turn, sometimes right after the turn. I'm used to the beep to check with Magellan. Again, if anyone knows how do I get my Garmin 55 to beep just before a turn, I'd appreciate it if I know how to set this. . Either everything is clear or nothing. I'd rather be able to delete one or two, but not do everything. 5) FYI: The vehicle speed displayed on the Garmin 55 is 4 mph off my car's speedometer. I don't use this gadget for my speed so I don't really care, but it might be useful for someone else to know. So my goal is 4 stars. Not the GPS of my dreams, but it doesn't really exist. Even if these claims or preferences are not found, I think that this Garmin should be very practical (and hopefully reliable) for my purposes, hence 4 stars.
