It was fairly easy to install, especially in our case because we were replacing an existing makeshift cat door and therefore didn't have to make a new hole, we just had to cover the existing one . That way I didn't even have to use all the hardware that comes with the kit. The installation went smoothly. The downside I'll point out is that the doors, when installed correctly (and I think I have them), don't swing as freely. They are made from a fairly dense/heavy material to ensure appropriate weight so they stay down and provide good insulation. But the implication of this is that our cat found it a little difficult to learn, even though it had gone through the cat door before. It took a bit of effort to get it to go through because he had to really push the piece to release the magnet and move the valve. And in the end we just had to use the inner valve and leave the outer valve. He simply refused to push through 2 flaps. Therefore, we sacrifice a little thermal insulation properties. This is a decent sized cat (10 pounds). Overall, I still recommend this product, but if you are having trouble with the cat pushing through both doors, I recommend not removing the outer door.
