The little gold you see inside came out when I took my earring out of the back. I still have the rubber piece which surprisingly stayed in place and I'm not afraid of losing the earring. Also, one of the gold flakes that came out of the rubber was stuck to my earring and it was difficult for me to remove the mangled part of the earring to wear it. After ruining my nails I was finally able to get it off the shelf. I ended up throwing away those tiny gold parts and using the rubber pads. I gave the Comfort three stars because they didn't infect my ears and stayed in place.
