Review on ๐Ÿ—„๏ธ Way Basics Cube Plus Cubby Organizer: Tool-Free Assembly & Stylishly Sustainable Black Wood Grain Design by Dave Moody

Revainrating 3 out of 5

An eco-friendly storage solution, but MUST be placed with the long edges vertical (or the shelves will fall apart).

I had great luck with the Way Basics (square) storage cubes I bought for my daughter's nursery 2.5 years ago, I decided in early 2014 to buy a pair of these (rectangular ) to purchase Storage Cube Plus to store some of their toys. I chose Expresso (dark brown) because it matches the color of our living room. Unlike the square cubes that lasted over 2 years without tilting, the adhesive strips in these Cube Plus rectangular cubes began to break after just 3 months, causing the edges of the cubes to come loose. My 2 dice were stacked on top of each other so both dice fell when the bottom die failed. The cargo in the cubes wasn't particularly heavy either - mostly light-weight toys the size of toddlers. I can't figure out why the Way Basics Cube Plus rectangular cubes fell apart but the square cubes stayed intact, especially since the rectangular cubes came with a thick cardboard "shield" that you might think would help hold the Cube Plus together. We only store fabric items (lightweight blankets, stuffed animals, etc.) in square cubes, so perhaps the moral of the story is that only very light items can be stored in Way Basics cubes. I definitely didn't see them for storing heavy compact items like CDs/DVDs, vinyl records or books. Luckily after the Cubes Plus fell apart I was able to put the boards back together so they aren't completely useless. However, at the moment we can only store soft and very light toys in it, so I need to find another solution to store my daughter's plastic toys. I gave this product 3 stars instead of 2 or 1 because it is a sustainable alternative to toxic engineered wood products and a cost effective alternative to expensive natural solid wood shelving. But I wouldn't buy Way Basics products again or recommend them to others unless they're used to store fluffy items like light sweaters or stuffed animals. he was contacted by Way Basics customer service. They have been very attentive and willing to help me solve my problems with this product. I sent you some photos of my Storage Cube Plus. And as it turned out, I folded the cubes wrong! Apparently, to maximize the integrity of the Storage Cube Plus product, the long edges need to be positioned vertically. If the long edges of the cube are horizontal, this will cause the adhesive to detach from the seams. Unfortunately I have used each of these cubes to store two small Whitmor 6241-1501-Kid's Canvas Collection Tote, Small, Blue (Children's Toy) canvas storage baskets side by side and they are not suitable for storage. Cube in vertical orientation. Therefore I had to glue the seams and put the cubes back in a horizontal position. Having said that, I cannot give this product 5 stars because nowhere in the product instructions does it say that these cubes should only be used in a vertical orientation. This requires a very clear warning on the packaging or in the instructions/instructions as the cubes practically fall apart when laid flat. If I had known that beforehand, I would not have bought the Storage Cube Plus. Customer Service: AUdated Product Grade: B
