I find this to be a good base layer for cold weather golf (ie 35°-65°) as it keeps you warm without significantly restricting movement. If you're not used to compression underwear, you might feel like they're "tight," but that feeling goes away over time. I don't usually wear a golf shirt over it. For example, one day in December it was 35° and windy, so over that layer I wore a long-sleeved, non-compressive, crew-neck merino wool layer and a lined lambswool sweater (hat, thick socks, cart gloves, and waterproof pants over the corduroy). In stronger winds or colder temperatures, I would wear a thermal vest as a fourth layer. With 52° and windy weather I only need a lined sweater over this base layer. I go up a size for Tesla long sleeve underwear, but for this vest I took my normal XL size, which turned out to be fine.
