Review on ASUS VP229HE: The Ultimate 21.5" HD Monitor with Adaptive Sync, Frameless Design, and Blue Light Filter by Brandon Nelson

I recently decided to take my 22" Acer 1680x1050 to work and had to buy another monitor for my home laptop. After searching at companies like Viewsonic and others, I finally settled on this monitor. Following features appealed to me: 1. Design (no added clutter) 2. Contrast Ratio ASCR Ratio: 50 million to 1? By any standard, that's crazy 3. Audio Out (I don't really like the built-in speakers) 4. HDMI port Of course this monitor met all my needs and more!I love the physical buttons this monitor uses and I'm afraid more and more manufacturers are dropping them.The stand is almost always solid except when you press the buttons, there You have to press on the very edge of the monitor (no big deal). Some things to consider when buying this monitor: 1. Make sure it's you b If you have an nvidia graphics card, you can change the color setting in the control panel. Don't use RGB; Colors are washed out when using HDM. I. I have set the digital color format to YCbCr444 on my computer and that seems to have solved the problem.2. Make sure your HDMI cable is properly shielded. On the second day of use, I noticed a buzzing noise that I initially thought was coming from the monitor. It turned out that from the speakers. After countless tests I decided on a cable and was able to reduce the noise quite a bit. (Unfortunately, ASUS doesn't include an HDMI cable with the purchase) Update 1: There's one thing I don't quite like about the monitor and I'm not sure if there's a workaround (please let me know if there is one ). When the monitor goes to sleep or I turn it off, music stops playing through the audio port. It would be nice to separate the sound coming from the HDMI cable from the monitor. Also, the monitor turns very light blue like a TV when not connected, as opposed to the beautiful black screen I'm used to from Acer. (no big deal) Update 2: Small issue but still annoying. While the display itself is matte, the monitor body is NOT matte. The light reflecting off the side of the monitor is a bit distracting, but I'm not going to throw a tantrum about it. (FYI, the Acer monitor I used before didn't have a glossy case for optimal viewing. However, it looks like they dropped that case too!) Update 3: Sound from the speakers is back. There doesn't seem to be a way to get rid of it. When music or sound is playing, the hum does not appear. However, since I have a computer hooked up, this doesn't seem like a very good idea.
