Review on πŸ”§ Precision at Your Fingertips: IGaging 35 780 AccuMarking Digital Marking Tool by Alex Smith

Revainrating 4 out of 5

WHY? WHY NOT! Great deal for the money.

The sensor is heavy and appears to be of good quality. It seems very accurate (to within half a thousand, it matches my other precision instruments). If you want to draw a line EXACTLY 0.25 inch from the edge, this tool is for you. It's a little tricky to adjust the setting (not a micro-adjustment like the Glen-Drake TiteMark), but I found that tapping the end of the sensor with my finger allowed me to move it into thousandths fairly reliably since it's essentially a tool trades wood for hand-to-hand work (power tool users don't really need to draw knife lines) the question is WHY? This is also a question of accuracy. In one case, you might want to install a mortise lock but don't have your fancy double-knife mortise gauge handy. You can set up one wall of the slot, zero out there and move 3/8 (or whatever) and mark the other wall. OR In the case where you are measuring the thickness of another piece of wood to mark a dovetail for example, you may be less interested in an accurate, practical measurement - UNLESS you need to repeat that measurement somewhere. already reset your sensor - THEN this digital readout can just be your best friend. You can reset the gauge to a known measurement and be sure it's within 0.0005 inches, which is certainly close enough for even the finest woodwork. Even if the battery is dead (I came with a battery PLUS 2 spares) it still works like a classic wheel marker. For the price, that's a very good deal.
